  • Funding will go toward the further development of HYDRIS, the European open-sourceintegration and orchestration platform
  • Expeditions, the leading early-stage investor in European security, leads the round, Hensoldt and Heliad join as investors
  • Open architecture allows users to design their own mission environments and reduceintegration effort and vendor lock-ins

Berlin, 9th of July 2026 – Just eleven months after its seed fundinground, the European defence tech company Project Q successfully closed a SeriesA funding round of 12 million euros in June.

The funding round is being led by Expeditions, which is expanding its investment in Project Q. Also participating in the round are the publicly traded German defence specialist HENSOLDT AG and the German venture capital investor Heliad. Project Q’s products are designed to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty in the security and defence sectors. The company thus remains entirely funded by European investors.

The new capital will be invested primarily infurther developing HYDRIS, a European open-source European integration andorchestration platform that enables armed forces and government agencies toachieve greater technological sovereignty and faster innovation cycles. HYDRISenables the seamless integration of commercially available technologies, datasources, and existing legacy systems. HYDRIS creates a vendor-neutralfoundation for resilient, interoperable, and technologically sovereignoperations, as well as an open innovation ecosystem, through open standards,AI-powered data processing, edge computing, and distributed operations. At thesame time, the platform integrates seamlessly into existing softwarelandscapes, mission systems, and command and control information systems, thereby expanding their capabilities.

Leonard Wessendorff, CEO and co-founder ofProject Q, says: “The trust that our investors have placed in us is a greatendorsement. We are particularly pleased that the funding comes entirely fromEurope. With HYDRIS, we will enable armed forces and security agencies toindependently integrate new technologies and capabilities, continuously developthem further, and thus respond much more quickly to changing threat scenarios. In this way, we are laying the foundation for greater technological sovereigntyin Europe.”

Mikolaj Firlej, GP and co-founder of  Expeditions, underlines: “Asingle special forces unit in a European country can use over ten differentcommunication tools that do not talk with each other. If Europe wants to act asa single projecting force and execute faster decision cycles than theadversary, the imperative is a deeper integration between many disconnectedsystems operating in 27+ different national systems. Project Q, led by Leonardand Philip, is the most mature effort that aims to solve this problem andcreate an interoperability layer that controls how systems communicate, integrate and deliver impact on the battlefield.”
